Come Read With Us By the Pool This Canada Day

On July 1st, we're doing something really special. We’re setting up a multilingual reading lounge by Woodbine Pool, and I’d love for you to come by.

There’s a beautiful green space next to the playground and the boardwalk—if you’ve been there, you probably know exactly what I mean. That’s where we’ll be. We’re bringing a big colourful rug, some Moroccan poofs to sit on, and a rainbow umbrella for shade. Nothing fancy—just a cozy little spot to relax, cool off, and read.

We’ll have a bunch of our bilingual and multilingual books out for kids (and grownups!) to flip through. You’ll also find drawing tables, and we’re holding a colouring contest too. (As the former colouring queen of the Beaches I kind of have to.) One lucky family will win a basket full of summer reading goodies—things like books, a soft reading blanket, snacks, a book light, and other things to help make reading feel like a treat this summer.

Here’s the heart of it:
I created Fluent because I wanted kids to be able to see and hear their languages reflected in the stories they read. On July 1st, we’re inviting kids to come and read in their mother tongue—to explore stories in the languages they speak at home, or the ones they’re learning. I hope it helps them feel seen, proud, and curious.

We won’t be selling books that day—it’s not that kind of setup. But if you fall in love with one of the stories, there will be QR code you can scan that’ll take you straight to our Amazon page. Easy.

Mostly, we just want to meet you. We want to build community, and offer a space for kids to enjoy books in all the languages that make them who they are.

So if you’re in the area, swing by. Bring your kids, bring a snack, sit with us for a while. I’ll be there, and I’d love to meet you.

See you by the pool,
Hannah
